The MedLife Support Podcast: Support for Physician Burnout, Relationships, and Families in Medicine
Jan 07, 2026The MedLife Support Podcast: Support for Physician Burnout, Relationships, and Families in Medicine
Life in medicine is intense — and it doesn’t just impact the physician.
Long hours, call schedules, emotional exhaustion, and chronic stress ripple through medical marriages, partnerships, families, and the people who support those working in healthcare. Often, these challenges go unspoken. Even when things look “fine” on the outside, physician burnout, relationship strain, and disconnection can quietly take hold.
That’s why I created The MedLife Support Podcast — a podcast dedicated to supporting physicians, spouses, partners, and families navigating life in medicine.
Why The MedLife Support Podcast Exists
I’m Dr. Lisa Muehlenbein, PhD, a health psychologist, nationally board-certified health and wellness coach, and the spouse of a physician for nearly three decades. I’ve spent over 30 years in the health and wellness field helping individuals and families build more balanced, sustainable lives.
My doctoral research focused on physician burnout and the marital relationship, specifically from the spouse’s perspective — an often overlooked but critical part of healthcare culture. That work fundamentally changed how I understand connection, healing, and partnership in medicine.
What I’ve learned — personally and professionally — is this:
When one person experiences burnout, the entire family system feels it.
But when healing happens together, relationships strengthen, communication improves, and everything changes.
The MedLife Support Podcast was created to reflect that reality.
A Podcast About Life in Medicine — Not Just Work in Medicine
The MedLife Support Podcast is a space for honest, compassionate, and evidence-based conversations about life in medicine — not only from the physician’s point of view, but from the perspective of spouses, partners, and families as well.
Topics on the podcast include:
-
Physician burnout and emotional exhaustion
-
Medical marriages and relationships in healthcare
-
Communication and boundaries in medicine
-
Supporting a physician without losing yourself
-
Family wellbeing in healthcare careers
-
Healing, reconnection, and resilience
You’ll hear from physicians, spouses and partners, and experts in psychology and wellness who are willing to talk openly about the realities of healthcare life — including the late nights, missed moments, guilt, love, and resilience it takes to keep showing up for one another.
Some episodes focus on evidence-based tools from psychology and wellness research. Others are candid conversations about what’s working, what’s not, and what it looks like to start again.
